This bust of a nobleman given to Lord Harley shows the subject facing sinister with fine modelling and detailed afterwork. The subject is shown in a Roman attire as would befit a senator or Emperor.
The dates of the Earl 1689-1741 would make this an early bust by John Cheere 1709-1787 and may well have been modelled by Peter Sheemakers 1691-1781, who worked with Cheere at this time.
