Lee Priory Study Day – 1st March 2016

“Alex, just a quick e mail to tell you that yesterday was a real treat. Thank you so much for letting us into your home and showing us the Lee Priory room and the other items in your architectural collection. The three speakers were all excellent - I learned such a lot from Peter, Philip and Mark but, of course, the highlight of the day was actually lying under the ceiling of the Lee Priory 'library ante chamber'. Oh, and lunch was superb as well. Please thank the caterers and all your other helpers for putting together such a great day - it was worth the drive from Lincoln. I do hope you are able to hold future study days.”

“We both thoroughly enjoyed the day with you. Your enthusiasm and generous hospitality were very winning. The day was well organised and nicely paced. There were plenty of opportunities for us participants to engage both by volunteering information and asking questions. The mix of talks from academic architectural historians and a master craftsman, with input from entrepreneur Alex, provided a rich understanding of what is involved in salvaging, researching and restoring architectural fragments. In preparation for the day, my husband went to look at the Strawberry room from Lee Priory in the V&A. He commented that seeing the Library ante room at Architectural Heritage was the more satisfying experience. We could see how the room was constructed and get close up to the detail of the decoration. It was well displayed. We enjoyed too looking around the outbuildings and seeing the other salvaged pieces as well as the garden ornament collection of Architectural Heritage. Thank you for a splendid day out, and thanks too to the kitchen staff. A hot cooked lunch, with wine, was an unexpected bonus, even if it did make me a bit sleepy for the afternoon talks!”
