A charming 19th Century cast iron group of cherubs, one holds aloft a bird, his companions lean against a rocky outcrop with bullrushes and they hold a scallop shell filled with coral and seas ells. The square base is cast with further sea shells. There is an indistinct foundry stamp.
The original statue upon which the 19th Century group is based was modelled by Jean Dugoulon in 1685 and cast in bronze. The statue remains in its original position in the Bassin Du Nord in the Parterre D'Eau in the gardens of Versailles, Paris, France.
